Yardsticks
I wanted to write something to express how great a prompt this is, but honestly I can’t really add anything to what Thomas said.
So, my friends, do not be afraid to come up with your own ethical yardstick. If you have not chosen one, give it some thought. What yardstick will you use? Are you afraid to have a solid set of beliefs, and to stick to it? Do you fear your own judgment if you do not live up to the values you choose? Think about what kind of person you want to be, what kind of conduct you expect from yourself. Ponder the yardstick you will use not as a tool for bludgeoning others with your holy judgment, but as a tool for living a worthwhile life.
When it comes to thinking about my own yardstick, I think I run the risk of beating myself over the head with mine, as well as others. I believe very strongly in things, and can run the risk of being very outspoken about them.
