Wikipedia black helicopters circle Utah’s Traverse Mountain

A good backstory to this Reg article can be found at FINDING THE LAUGH IN SLAUGHTER, OR, ORWELL’S THAT ENDS WELL

If you want a real excercise in groupthink and paranoia, read the BADSITES discussion at Wikipedia.

How many stalkers would need a link on a user talk page, for example, to find an attack site/forum of their liking? Is it just me, or has the motivation to advance a general ban on all controversial sites got something to do with protection from criticism from inside Wikipedia?

The above is the most blatant violation of the assumption of good faith that I have ever seen. --Mantanmoreland 18:59, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Hey, wait a second, isn’t that the same Mantanmoreland that is mentioned in the Register article?

After digging for six months, Bagley decided that his Wikipedia nemesis was none other than Gary Weiss. He was sure the 70.23.85.112 IP address belonged to Weiss, and he was sure that Weiss later used a Wikipedia account called "Mantanmoreland" to control not only the encyclopedia's naked shorting article, but three others as well: the Overstock.com article, the Patrick Byrne article, and the entry on Gary Weiss himself.

Yep. It is.

Moving past that train-wreck. On to the next?

Secret mailing list rocks Wikipedia OR Durova ve hav the sekret evidence, wat vil you do now???

Basically, the problem with the mailing list is that Wikipedia is supposed to be transparent. By having a mailing list, the actions of the users that have been entrusted with moderator privileges are now allowed to operate and discuss business off the record, with no fear that they will undergo public scrutiny.

There have always been allegations that Wikipedia has been rigged, and there is a secret cabal of power users and admins that are determined to “NPOV” users and history into submission.

I tried to make a few edits to Wikipedia a while ago, I even reverted a bit of vandalism. The problem with Wikipedia is that articles and edits are really determined by who is enough of a loser to be on Wikipedia 24/7. They’ll be sitting there at 10:00 on a Friday night frantically defending their edits from change, while you’re having a grand old time out on the town.
