iPod Touch vs. Laptop

I thought I’d follow up on last week’s post on the iPod Touch. While the iTunes wireless store bombed, the killer app for Dad has been Mail. He loves it. Being able to carry a single phone-sized gadget that he can use to check his email while listening to his music has been a “godsend.”

In his own words:

I imagine that within the next two years or so that everyone will be using computers the size of the iPod Touch to get things done. It's just so easy to carry.

While Blackberry and Palm have been in the market for years, they’ve just never been able to gain critical mass. Having an iPod that suddenly is able to do your e-mail and web will have people thinking more about internet enabled devices. Plus, I think Apple has an edge over their competitors because they’ve put some thought into the interface.
